Kolbe Report 10/12/24

Loved, Lost and Found

Dear Friends of the Kolbe Center,

Glory to Jesus Christ!

Over the last several years I have been working on a book that would help as many souls as possible to open their minds and hearts to the truth of the sacred history of Genesis by helping them to recognize that it is not the scientific evidence but a false philosophy of naturalism that has led the academic elite of mankind to embrace the myth of evolution over long ages.  Entitled Loved, Lost and Found, the book begins with this foreword:

This book will most likely fall into the hands of three categories of readers: Catholic true believers, qualified believers, and skeptical non-believers.

If you are in the first category, the Catholic true believers, you need only to know that your Heavenly Father has revealed the true origin of man and the universe and the early history of the world in the book of Genesis. You know that He spoke the world into existence through His Son by the power of the Holy Spirit. You know that He knows everything, that He made everything for you out of love, and that He wants you to know your place in space and time to confirm that you are the apple of His eye. You do not need to be shown the fatal flaws in the evolutionary myths and long-age chronologies that purport to be derived from scientific observation. Your Heavenly Father has confirmed the true age and history of the world in His revelation as it was understood in His Church from the beginning, and that is enough for you. The only reason why you want to know the fatal flaws in the “scientific” arguments used to refute the Biblical history of the world is so that you can help your skeptical brothers and sisters to obtain the child-like supernatural faith that God has given you.

If you are in the second category, a qualified believer, you believe in God and in the fundamental truths of Christianity, but you have been led to believe that the age of the universe is not a matter of fundamental importance. You believe that the Bible is the Word of God, but you believe that natural science has progressed far beyond the level it had reached among the Hebrews in Old Testament times or among the Apostles and Church Fathers. Consequently, God adapted His revelation regarding Creation to the cultural level of His audience and inspired His believers to pursue the study of nature so that they would eventually discover the laws and constitution of the natural world, including the right understanding of the age and development of the universe.

If you are in the third category, a skeptical non-believer, you regard the Biblical chronology of the world as an artifact of a primitive pre-scientific period in human history, long before the scientific disciplines of geology, biology, and astronomy made it possible to determine the age and development of the cosmos with accuracy, without having recourse to any but natural causes to explain the origins of man and the universe. Perhaps you are only reading this book to humor a Christian friend, to satisfy your curiosity, or to see how easily you can refute its claims.

My brother or sister, whoever you are, may God who is the Way, the Truth and the Life, open your mind to receive and believe the Truth about your sacred heritage, for His glory, for the good of your soul and of all souls, and for the coming of His Kingdom “on earth as it is in Heaven”!

Our Good Shepherd Gives Us Ropes in the Snow

Blessed Pope Pius IX

The reigning Pope when Darwin published his book On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life was Blessed Pope Pius IX. In a letter of commendation for a book by a French physician critical of Darwin’s Origin of Species, Blessed Pope Pius IX articulated his verdict on the evolutionary hypothesis:

[Evolution] is a system which is so repugnant at once to history, to the tradition of all the peoples, to exact science, to observed facts, and even to Reason herself, it would seem to need no refutation, did not alienation from God and the leaning toward materialism, due to depravity, eagerly seek a support in all this tissue of fables . . .

It is noteworthy that the Pope did not see the serious scientific shortcomings of Darwin’s hypothesis as its most fundamental weakness. Rather, the Holy Father first noted the total contradiction between Darwin’s account of the history of life on earth and the “tradition of all the peoples.” This is because Pius IX still acknowledged the living memory of the events recorded in the first eleven chapters of the Book of Genesis, preserved by people-groups all over the world; and he knew that it was quite possible to trace man’s lineage in an unbroken chain all the way back to the beginning of creation.

In one of her semi-autobiographical novels about growing up on the American frontier, Laura Ingalls Wilder describes the childhood of a young man who grew up on a farm in northern New York State where winters could be extremely harsh. In severe blizzards, snow could fall so thick and fast that a person could leave his home and easily become totally disoriented and freeze to death without traveling more than a short distance from his home. To protect against this, farmers would set up ropes between their homes and the barns where they had to go to exercise their livestock to keep them from freezing to death. In this way, they could maneuver safely between their homes and their barns, even in the worst of conditions.

If you lose a trail, any number of intelligent and observant people can tell you that you are lost and can offer a plausible explanation for how you got lost and what you need to do to regain the path home. But there is no way to know whether they are right about the way back to the trail. On the other hand, if someone with a rope who is directly connected to the trail finds you and offers to take you back to the path, you would be foolish to refuse.

This new book is that offer.

I can make the offer confidently, not because of any merits of my own—I have none—but simply because I hold fast to the Tradition handed down to us by the Good Shepherd, Our Lord Jesus Christ, and His Holy Apostles. In the light of that Tradition, I am as sure of my location in time and space as were the Apostles themselves—and, like them, I know that you and I are the apple of God’s eye, that He created this Earth to be the spiritual and physical capital of the world, and that He created everything for you and for me and for the other members of His human family.

We would like to get this book into the hands of as many people as possible, as quickly as possible, so please prayerfully consider ordering multiple copies to give to relatives, friends, and others who might be willing to read it.

Through the prayers of the Mother of God and of all the Saints, may the Holy Ghost lead us all into all the Truth!

Yours in Christ through the Immaculata in union with St. Joseph,

Hugh Owen
