Dr. Henry Morris RIP

6th October 1918 - 25th February 2006.
Requiescat in pace.

Dr. Henry M. Morris, founder and President Emeritus of the Institute for Creation Research, has gone to his eternal reward at the age of 87. Dr. Morris is considered by friend and foe alike to be the father of the modern Creation Science movement.

A hydraulic engineer by training, Dr. Morris graduated from Rice University in 1939 and earned his Masters degree and Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. He later taught at a number of universities in the USA and his book 'Applied Hydraulics in Engineering', published in 1963, became a standard graduate textbook.
In 1961, Dr. Morris joined forces with John C. Whitcomb, to publish a book that became a catalyst for the rise of the modern Creation movement in America and beyond. 'The Genesis Flood', ( according to the New York Times, is in its 44th printing and has sold 250,000 English language copies. The book is credited with being the first to take a scientific, as well as a theological, approach to proving the truth of the Deluge. Dr. Morris went on to write a further 60 or so books.

The Institute for Creation Research, that he founded in 1970, has become an enormous organization dedicated to proving the truth of Genesis. Under his guidance it developed its own scientific research facilities and graduate college. As well as publishing, perhaps hundreds of books on aspects of Creation Science, the ICR has also sponsored scientific research programs, such as the RATE project, ( that are effectively contributing to the destruction of the evolutionary myth.

The Kolbe Center for the Study of Creation passes on our condolences to Dr. Morris' wife, Mary Louise, and his family. Although they do not share the Faith and perhaps do not understand the importance of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, we wish them to know that Dr. Morris has been enrolled in the Purgatorian Archconfraternity ( and the Holy Sacrifice will be offered for the repose of his soul every day for a year.

May he rest in peace.

Out of the depths have I cried unto Thee, O Lord; Lord hear my voice.
O let Thine ears consider well the voice of my supplication.
If Thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities: Lord who shall abide it?
For with Thee there is merciful forgiveness: and because of Thy law I have waited for Thee, O Lord.
From the morning watch even until night: let Israel hope in the Lord.
For with the Lord there is mercy: and with Him is plenteous redemption.
And He shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.
And let perpetual light shine upon them.

Let us pray.

O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant unto the souls of Thy servants departed the remission of all their sins: that through pious supplications they may obtain that pardon which they have always desired. Who livest and reignest world without end. Amen.
