The subtitle of this book is Proofs that Dinosaurs and Man Lived Together. It is a fascinating collection of information obtained from ancient Peruvian cultural artifacts which offers compelling evidence that men and dinosaurs lived together in South American within the last 2,000 years. Although it may not be a literary masterpiece, and the author was not apparently motivated to prove the literal truth of Genesis, it still presents a wealth of data that could be very useful to creationists.
The author, Dennis Swift, first came upon the Ica Stones more than thirty years ago while still an evolutionist. On the first encounter, he was tempted to dismiss the stones because he had been taught that men and dinosaurs had missed each other by about 65 million years. However their presence in Peruvian museums intrigued him.
The stones in the museums show carvings of men and various animals, including extinct fish and llamas, and dinosaurs. Various dinosaurs are represented including Stegosaurus, Diplodicus, Pterodactyls, Triceratops, and Apatosaurus. The stones show the dinosaurs in life-like positions and some are interacting with men. The details of their skin are shown in the carvings as well as crests on their heads and ridges on theirs backs. Although the carvings are supposed to be hundreds or thousands of years old, the detailed positions and features of the dinosaurs were not known to modern science until recently.
Other carvings on the stones showed men performing surgeries including brain/skull surgeries, caesarian sections, and open heart surgeries. Additional stones show men looking though tubes which appear to be telescopes, which fits with other evidence of advanced ancient knowledge in optics. Besides the dinosaur carvings in stones, there are painted vases, woven tapestries, and clay figurines depicting dinosaurs.
The biggest question about the stone carvings is their authenticity.1 Where they really carved by ancient Peruvians hundreds and thousands of years ago, or are they modern forgeries? There is an established trade in ancient artifacts and the poor people of Peru are only too happy to sell. There are plenty of counterfeits on the market and it takes an experienced trader to tell the difference between the real and the fake. In fact, Dr. Swift befriended one Peruvian who carved a stone on demand, similar to the ones in the museums.
In order to prove or disprove the authenticity of the stone carvings, Dr. Swift arranged for a group of people with diverse interests to scientifically examine the supposed genuine ancient stones. They went to a house with a private collection, the Cabrera Museum, and selected various stone for examination.
Dr. Swift had previously examined the stone produced by his befriended Peruvian under a microscope and it showed evidence of pencil marks where he had marked the stone prior to carving. There were also tiny flakes of metal left by the hacksaw blade that was used to make the carvings. The surface of the stone in the carved grooves was also bright showing no signs of age. Some other recently carved stones have been artificially aged by baking them in manure but the finish of the just-baked stone will rub off with a cloth. Any stone carved by a rotary tool would show swirl marks in addition to leaving a bright surface in the grooves.
Upon examining the stones from the Cabrera Museum, none of the distinguishing characteristics of the modern-day forged stones were apparent - no pencil marks, no metal flakes, no fresh cuts, no signs of a baked-on finish. What they did find was that the stones were covered with a layer of patina, or mineralization, both on the surface of the stones and in the grooves. There was also found layers of biological varnish produced by algae or bacteria. These same layers of patina and varnish are found on other artifacts found in the area. Some of the carvings were obscured by the thick layers of patina and varnish. It generally takes hundreds or thousands of years to account for this much buildup in the arid environment of Peru.
So the stones from the Cabrera Museum show no signs of being recently carved and every indication suggests that the carvings in the stones are of ancient origin, just like the other artifacts found there. Not only that, some of the carvings are quite intricate and show a high level of artistry. The life-like positions of the dinosaurs depicted in the carvings also show either an advanced knowledge of paleontology or an eye-witness account of living creatures. Given that there is no evidence of ancient paleontology, it is nearly certain the carvings were made from actual sightings. Additional historic records of dinosaur-like animals in ancient and medieval cultures lend further weight to the notion that dinosaurs and men lived together in the past.
The Nazca Lines also indicate that the ancient Peruvian culture was very technically advanced. These lines portray various figures including birds, fish, monkeys, spiders, men, and dinosaurs. There are other lines describing geometric figures and some lines run perfectly straight for thousands of feet along the desert floor. Since the figures described by the lines can only be viewed from about 1000 feet or more above the ground, it has been suggested that aliens from another planet created them. However, the evidence shows that the culture of ancient Peru would have been quite capable of producing these features.
In fact, ancient figurines have been found showing men dressed up in suits with wings on their backs, suggesting that they could have viewed the lines while in flight. There are further historical records which suggest that men were capable of flight in ancient times. Additional out-of-place artifacts include ancient ground lenses, wheeled vehicles, and surgical tools.
Dr. Swift makes a sound case for the antiquity of the Ica Stones and the notion of dinosaurs and men living together thousands of years ago. He also makes a strong case for highly advanced ancient civilizations. These ideas are inimical to evolutionists and their theories. This is why information about the Ica Stones and similar evidence has been suppressed or attacked. Evolutionists will fight to the death to preserve their universe-without-a-God so that they can continue to live life as they please without being disturbed by the facts.
Secrets of the Ica Stones is relatively short and easy to read; it is not highly technical. The photos alone are worth the price of the book. Attempts to suppress the information in this book show just how far evolutionists will go to defend their baseless theories. However, we can have hope that the knowledge contained in the Ica Stones and Nazca Lines, together with information from other creationist sources, will one day accumulate to topple the ivory tower of Evolution once and for all.
